Microwave Faults

Microwave fuses.

These types of fuses are commonly found in many brands of microwave ovens.
They are normally used as the mains input fuse and are designed to fail if there is a fault.
Such a fault could be a short circuit magnetron or a short circuit high voltage rectifier.
In my experience however, this fuse commonly fails for no apparent reason.
The fuse just gets stressed every time the magnetron starts which eventually leads to the breakdown of the fuse.
This particular type of fuse is sand filled and is not clear glass like other fuses. It is important to replace a fuse in a microwave with this type as it will not explode in the event of a fault.
This fuse is also designed to withstand the high surge current that flows when a microwave is started. If you require a microwave fuse then carefully check the rating that is normally on the siver end of the fuse.
Also measure the fuse length 32mm and 20mm are the common lengths.
In our fuses section you will find the most common types of fuses listed.
